Thunderstorms Usher Heat Out of Northern Virginia

Temperatures drop from 100-plus to 80s.

Although Sunday evening's thunderstorms that rattled through the area knocked out power to 4,206 in Northern Virginia, according to Dominion Power, it did get rid of the oppressive heat.

The heatwave that clamped down on the area and refused to leave broke records for sticking around for 10 days of 95-plus degree heat.

Northern Virginia will see highs Monday of 82 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

The NWS forecasts that temperatures will hold steady throughout the week, with highs in the 80s, but we could see more thunderstorms through Wednesday.

As for power outages related to Sunday night's storms, the following was posted on the Dominion Power Web site Sunday at about 11:45 p.m.:

  • Alexandria: 708 (there appeared to be an outage of about 400 homes near Jordan and Duke streets)
