Centreville's Alice Foltz Wins Community Champion Award

The 20th Annual Fairfax County Volunteer Service Awards recognized Fairfax County residents and organizations for their service to the community.

Centreville resident Alice Foltz won the Sully District "Community Champion" award from Volunteer Fairfax on Friday.

nominated Foltz for the award for her work on immigration and labor issues. Foltz worked through her church, the , to establish an outreach committee to reduce community tensions around the issue. The , which helps immigrants obtain work, in December.

Sully District Volunteer Fairfax Award Nominees

Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-11), the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, including Chairman Sharon Bulova, the Braddock District's John Cook, Michael Frey and the Mason District's Penny Gross, were also on hand to recognize the honorees from local area organizations. Cynne Simpson from ABC 7 News served as emcee for the event.

Volunteer Fairfax hosts the awards every year in partnership with the Board of Supervisors and sponsored by UnitedHealthcare.

The honorees contributed 205,688 hours of volunteer service time, valued at $4.5 million. A full gallery of winners is in the article above.
