Community Corner

Howl-O-Ween, Meow-loween and Adopt-A-Thon

What's coming up in Centreville this week?

The James Mott Community Center is looking for volunteers who can help bag groceries, stock pantry shelves and help clients,  from 10 to 2 p.m. on Fridays, according to Volunteer Fairfax.  Get more information on the Volunteer Fairfax website.

A Howl-O-Ween Party and Spookacular Event at The Treasure Hound in Chantilly is from 12 to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Some of the proceeds from the event go to the group, Friends of Homeless Animals. There will be an animal communicator, a tarot card reader, pet photography and a costume contest at the event.

The Children's National Medical Team is asking residents to give their opinion on high school start times on the new website, smartschoolstart.org. Fairfax County Public Schools and the Children's National Medical Team are working together to change high school start times to after 8 a.m. Later start times are believed to help student performance and well being.

The Fairfax County Animal Shelter's Meow-loween is going on all this month.
During Meow-loween, all cat adoptions are $15 except on Fridays when adult cat adoption is just $5. New owners get a free gift bag with the adoption of an orange or a black cat.

Family Halloween Adopt-A-Thon is Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Fairfax County Animal Shelter. There will be a cat-condo decorating contest, shelter animal trick-or-treating, treats, games and prizes. Get more information from the animal shelter by dialing 703-830-1100 or at fairfaxcounty.gov/police
