The Fairfax Symphony Orchestra is preparing to make music at its season opener on Saturday at 8 p.m. at the George Mason Center for the Arts in Fairfax.
The opening performance of the 2013-2014 season features a solo by clarinetist Ricardo Morales that will be conducted by Christopher Zimmerman.
Tickets start at $25. See a seating diagram and purchase tickets for the performance here.
Morales will perform Copland’s Clarinet Concerto. The entire orchestra will perform Copland’s Music for the Theatre and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7.
This week, Morales has been traveling the area making bilingual presentations at Spanish-immersion elementary schools in Fairfax County, speaking to masters level classes and giving lectures at senior communities.
Morales, who is of Puerto Rican descent, also held an open rehearsal for students of all ages, in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.
His extended residency was made possible by a Challenge America Fast-Track Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, as well as a Project Support Grant from the Arts Council of Fairfax County.
The symphony performs again on Oct. 26 at 8 p.m. See the entire season schedule here.
