Pumpkin Madness, Living History, A Haunted Cabaret and one A-Maize-ing Festival in Leesburg

Red Rocks Cafe & Tequila Bar in Centreville will provide treats to everyone in costume on Halloween night. Friday is the costume contest featuring a $300 cash prize for the best outfit. 

The Book Thief. A free screening of the movie "The Book Thief" is tonight at the Angelika Theater at the Mosaic in Fairfax. You must go online and reserve your passes. Possession of a pass doesn't guarantee admission which is on a first come, first serve basis. The movie opens in theaters on Nov. 8. Reserve your pass here

Cox Farms Pumpkin Madness Weekend. Get $5 off the regular admission price of $14 this weekend if you're a public servant. The discount applies to:  firefighters, police, teachers, government employees (local, state and federal), hospital employees and military(retired and active). Use the discount on up to four tickets. 

Join the Virginia 42nd Infantry for a day of Civil War history brought to life at Ellanor C. Lawrence Park. Learn about the Machen family’s wartime experiences from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Admission is free.

Living History. The Civil War returns to Chantilly this weekend with Living History Day: Civil War at Walney. The Virginia 42nd Infantry will bring the period to life with stories of the Machen family’s wartime experiences. Free. 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Ellanor C. Night After Night. There’s a little more spook left in 2013, which means an extra helping of cabaret at the Workhouse Arts Center. A Haunted Cabaret: The Music of Nevermore and More continues with performances Thursday and Friday. That will be followed with shows Saturday and Sunday of Broadway Biography — Based on a True Story, with Broadway songs based on actual events. Prices and times vary. Thru Sunday. Still A-Maize-ing. Halloween is over, but we’ve still got time for fall fun at the Temple Hall Corn Maize and Fall Festival. A 24-acre corn maze, two large moonbounce stands, an all-ages bull riding machine, camel rides, pumpkin launcher and much more. $12 adults, $10 children/seniors. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday and Saturday. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
