The Weekend: Caring Hands Open House, "All Souls Day," Halloween Mini Camp

Saturday
Family Halloween Adopt-A-Thon is continues Saturday and Sunday at the Fairfax County Animal Shelter. There will be a cat-condo decorating contest, shelter animal trick-or-treating, treats, games and prizes. Bradley Farms Haunted House is back! This haunted house regularly attracts thousands of visitors, and all proceeds benefit Herndon-Reston FISH which provides emergency assistance to families in need.  Saturday night from 6-10 p.m., get ready for no-holds-barred scary; on Saturday, there's a tamed-down version for the younger kids from 1-5 p.m. Plus, in the parking lot, there's booths with games (Herndon Patch on Saturday from 1-4 p.m.!), concessions and live musical acts. Bradley Farm, 13159 New Parkland Dr., Herndon.

 Bring out your costumed pup for a special event for dogs. Lake Accotink Park will host a Howloween Dog Costume Contest and Boneyard Hunt. Special prizes and treats will be available. All dogs must be leashed and friendly. $6 per dog. 2-4 p.m. Saturday. Lake Accotink Park, 7500 Lake Accotink Park Road, Springfield.

Fairfax County Parks Authority has several other Halloween events this weekend. Pumpkin Patch at Nature Playce, Halloween Fest at Green Spring Gardens, Historic All Hallows Eve at Sully Historic SIte, Halloween Goblin Golf at Lake Accotink, the Ghost Train at Burke Lake and more. Costs, times and locations vary.

It's  a busy weekend at Jammin’ Java with a lot of shows planned, but we’ll keep with the Halloween theme and highlight the “All Souls Day” Old School Halloween Party presented by SNRG on Saturday. There will be a costume contest for best old school costumes. Some of Disney’s most popular characters hit the ice at the Patriot Center all weekend for Disney on Ice: Let’s Celebrate. There will be performances of holiday themes, including a Halloween Haunt by the Disney villains, along with a birthday party with the Mad Hatter and more. From $20. Times for the event vary on Saturday and Patriot Center, 4400 University Drive, Fairfax.

Back So Soon? Yes. Summer camp returns as an extra Halloween treat. The Workhouse Arts Center hosts a Halloween Mini Camp this weekend, with costume and cooking lessons, and more. For ages 6-10. $145. Register. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Workhouse Arts Center, 9601 Ox Road, Lorton.

Busy weekend at the Wolf Trap with folk, country and bluegrass concerts. Folk duo Magpie presents a 40th Anniversary show on Saturday. Costs and times vary. The Barns at Wolf Trap, 1635 Trap Rd., Vienna.

Caring Hands Animal Hospital locations in Centreville and Prince William County are gearing up for Halloween and open house events on Sunday.  

The events are from 11 to 2 p.m. at both locations with 100 percent of the proceeds going to local animal rescues, said Cassi Sharbaf of the Caring Hands Animal Hospitals. The Caring Hands Animal Hospital in Centreville is located at 5659 Stone Rd. The phone number is 703-830-5700.

A Howl-O-Ween Party and Spookacular Event at The Treasure Hound in Chantilly is from 12 to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Some of the proceeds from the event go to the group, Friends of Homeless Animals. There will be an animal communicator, a tarot card reader, pet photography and a costume contest at the event. 

The Valvoline Instant Oil Change Goblin Gallop is Sunday at Fairfax Corner
1K Fun Run begins at 8:30 a.m., 5K Run begins at 9:00 a.m. 5K Walk begins at 9:10 a.m.  The Goblin Gallop is a competitive 5K chip race over a USATF certified course and also a 1K Fun Run.
