Deer Park Elementary Students to Stand Up to Bullying

No Name Calling Week starts Tuesday.

No Name Calling Week, an effort to raise awareness and reduce bullying behaviors, will launch at Deer Park Elementary Tuesday, beginning at 9 a.m.  Paul Hadfield, a licensed clinical professional counselor, will give a presentation that includes magic, acrobatics, and humor to develop rapport and engage students while addressing bullying from a mental health standpoint.   He will emphasize how bystanders can be empowered to reduce bullying behaviors. Students will also learn to recognize feelings, employ empathy, talk to an adult, and use school resources.  During the week, students will also observe various dress days, including dressing in red, white, and blue to be a H.E.R.O. Bullying Shouldn't Be Ignored

If you suspect your child is a victim of bullying, address the problem immediately and help solve the problem.

Now that the school year has officially begun there are a number of things that are going through your child’s head. Upcoming tests, homework assignments and what they are going to eat for lunch are just a few examples. However, there is one topic that shouldn’t go unnoticed and that’s the issue of bullying. For some kids, bullying seems like a normal part of growing up, and rarely do they speak up when something has happened to them. Perhaps they feel embarrassed or they are afraid it will happen again if they were to say something. Either way, it’s important that this matter doesn’t go ignored because it’s a form of abuse.
