An evidentiary hearing was held for Stacy Lorenzo Reed, of Manassas, on federal weapons charges Tuesday.
A Manassas man not only planned the 2010 Centreville home invasion that led to the death of a local man, but he also drove the perpetrators to the property and burned his truck afterward, a Fairfax County detective testified at a preliminary hearing Tuesday afternoon. A federal judge in the Eastern District of Virginia courthouse in Alexandria found probable cause to send Stacy Lorenzo Reed's case to a grand jury, and ordered that he be held without bail. A Maryland man pleaded guilty in federal court Friday to his role in a 2010 Centreville home invasion that resulted in the death of a local man. Tasheik Ashanti Champean pleaded guilty to a Hobbs Act conspiracy and using a weapon in a crime of violence. Prosecutors signed a plea agreement with Champean and dropped the third charge against him, possession of ammunition by a prohibited person. Prosecutors will not seek the death penalty for Tasheik Ashanti Champean.
A man accused of orchestrating a home invasion that ended in the murder of a heroic handyman will stand trial in federal court this December. On Aug. 9, District Judge Anthony Trenga ordered that the trial for Tasheik Ashanti Champean, of Maryland, begin on Dec. 10. Champean is charged with conspiracy to violate the Hobbs Act, two counts of use of a firearm during a violent crime and three counts of possession of ammunition by a convicted felon. Trenga further ordered that any motions in the case be filed by Oct. 12, and any hearing on the motions be held on Nov. 9. A Maryland man was sentenced to 30 years in prison for his role in a 2010 Centreville home invasion that led to the murder of Jose Rosales Cardona, a Manassas Park resident. Reynard Prather, 22, of Oxen Hill, MD, pleaded guilty in February to charges of conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act robbery, use of a firearm in a crime of violence and use of a firearm in a crime of violence causing death. A Maryland man has pleaded guilty to the murder of Jose Rosales Cardona during a home invasion in Centreville in 2010. On Wednesday, Reynard Lazaro Prather, of Oxon Hill, pleaded guilty in federal court on the charge of murder resulting from the use of a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence. He also pleaded guilty to conspiracy to violate the Hobbs Act, which prohibits robbery that affects interstate commerce. A federal grand jury indicted Reynard Lazaro Prather, 22, Thursday on charges for his alleged role in an attempted armed robbery and the murder of Jose Cardona at a Centreville mansion in May 2010. The grand jury indicted Parther on charges of conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act robbery, use of a firearm in a crime of violence, use of a firearm in a crime of violence causing death and possession of ammunition by a prohibited person. Fairfax County Police have released portions of a harrowing 911 call from a Centreville home invasion that resulted in the death of a Manassas Park-area man last year. Police hope that by releasing the tape they can catch the perpetrators of the murder of Jose Rosales Cardona, 39. They are asking the public to step forward if they recognize the voices on the tape. Cardona, a handyman at a home near Compton Drive in Centreville, died while trying to defend the family he worked for from armed gunmen in May 2010.
