Salvador Portillo Saravia, who is already serving a 25-year sentence for raping a child, was sentenced Friday to a year in prison for illegally re-entering the country.
Salvador Portillo Saravia, who is already serving a hefty prison sentence for raping an 8-year-old Centreville girl, was sentenced to an additional year on immigration charges. On Friday, United States District Judge Claude Hilton sentenced Portillo Saravia, who in July pleaded guilty to the charge of illegally reentering the U.S. after being deported. Portillo Saravia is a native of El Salvador and authorities say he is also a member of the MS-13 street gang. Portillo Saravia, now 30, raped the 9-year-old girl around shortly after Christmas 2010, authorities said. He then fled to Texas, where he was captured in February 2011. Salvador Portillo-Saravia used to call the young Centreville girl his niece. After all, he was a fixture in her life as she grew up, even if they weren't related to one another. He came over to her home to celebrate birthdays, joined in on family parties, and even occasionally spent the weekend. But just after the family celebrated Christmas in 2010, Portillo-Saravia, apparently drunk at the time, raped the girl, who was only 8 years old. On Sunday authorities arrested Salvador Portillo-Saravia, a fugitive who has been on the run since Fairfax County issued a warrant for his arrest early last month for allegedly raping an eight-year-old Centreville girl. Portillo-Saravia, 29, who lived in the Sterling area, was an acquaintance of the family. He was inside the family's home on Cardigan Square in Centreville the morning of Dec. 26 and sexually assaulted the child, Fairfax County police said. The victim reported the incident to a family member on the same day, Officer Bud Walker, a spokesman for the Fairfax County Police Department, said at the time. Fairfax County police are searching for Salvador Portillo-Saravia, 29, of Sterling
Updated Wednesday, 6:23 p.m. Fairfax and Loudoun County Police and U.S. Marshalls spent the morning searching areas of Sterling for Portillo. New details have emerged on the man's past as well. The Washington Post reported this morning that he is a native of El Salvador and purportedly a member of the notorious Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) gang, with "MS13" tattoos on his chest, along with other gang-style tattoos on his hands, arms and upper body.
