The Wolverines will take on the Wildcats Friday night in their first postseason game.
Friday night, the West Potomac Wolverines will play against the Centreville Wildcats in their first postseason game at 7:30 p.m. at Centreville High School at 6001 Union Mill Road. The Wolverines ended their regular 2012-2013 season with a 6-4 record; one of their wins was against the Wildcats earlier in the season. The Wildcats ended the regular season with a 7-3 record and are looking forward to another opportunity to play the Wolverines. "We have a second chance to play a team that beat us early in the season, and we hope to take advantage of that second chance," said Wildcats Head Coach Chris Haddock. Wildcats pulled ahead for an early lead.
The Centreville Wildcats held off a second-half comeback by the Mount Vernon Majors Friday night, topping them in a final score of 30-22. The Wildcats dominated early, scoring 20 points with three touchdowns in the first half, twice on the ground with rushes by running backs David Newell and A.J. Turner and once in the air, with a pass to tight end David Liddle. But the Majors refused to go down easy. With only two seconds to go in the half, they scored a touchdown with a pass to tight end Mathias Sivataasi. The Wildcats came out strong for the second half, taking back the momentum when running back Xavier Nickens-Yzer returned the opening kick for a touchdown putting the Wildcats up 27-7. Lady Wildcats start off season strong.
The Centreville Wildcats field hockey team has started their season strong, posting a 7-1 record. The Lady Wildcats went undefeated in the last week of August. On Tuesday, Aug. 28, the team defeated Hayfield High School, 2-0, with goals by junior Katherine Zempolich and senior Carly Sane. On Thursday, Aug. 30, the Lady Wildcats beat Thomas Jefferson High School, 5-1, with a hat trick by Zempolich as well as goals by seniors Gabby Dagata and Brooke Peterson. Centreville lost a tough battle against Marshall High School, 0-1, on Sept. 5. The team quickly bounced back by defeating South Lakes High School, 3-2, on Sept. 7. Centreville celebrates with the Homecoming Parade and Taste of Centreville before the football game.
After Centreville received days of rain, the skies cleared and the sun came out for a beautiful day for the Centreville High School Homecoming Parade. The parade started at Union Mill Elementary School, went through Little Rocky Run and ended at Centreville High School. This year's homecoming theme was "Around the World." The annual Taste of Centreville took place in the student parking lot at Centreville High School immediately following the parade. Some of the local Centreville restaurants which participated included Little Italy, Moe's, Chik-Fil-A, Nathan's Dairy Bar and Baja Fresh. See photos from the Homecoming game here.
