Bio: Mary Stachyra is the founding editor of Centreville Patch and is currently the crime, courts and government editor for Prince William County sites. As a journalism student at the City University of New York, she interned at MSNBC and CNN. She worked as a staff writer at a newspaper in Maryland before Patch.

My Beliefs
At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible because human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal their beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable. This disclosure is not a license for our editors to inject these beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that their beliefs are on the record will force us to be ever mindful to write, report and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you, the user, ever see evidence that we failed in this mission, please let us know.

Politics
How would you describe your political beliefs?

I consider myself an independent voter. My political beliefs are a hodge-podge, but in general I favor small, highly transparent government. I'm also strongly pro-life.

Religion
How religious would you consider yourself?

I am a practicing Catholic.

Mary...will you be running the reviews of Cappies performances in your area schools this year? I believe you were recently sent the review of THIS year's Christmas Carol presented by Centreville HS, written by Sophie Friedman, Woodson HS.
Thanks...

Mary,

Please add field hockey to the list of SYA sports on their listing at http://centreville.patch.com/listings/southwestern-youth-association-2. Also, travel baseball and T-ball should not be listed as separate sports. Most sports have travel and/or select teams, so it wouldn't be appropriate to list just one and too much to list them all. You can verify anything in the listing with Sue Rafferty, the SYA administrator, at syaboard@verizon.net or (703) 815-3362.
