Bicyclist Injured in Crash Near Fair Oaks Mall

The man's injuries were life-threatening, but his condition improved later.

A bicyclist was seriously injured Tuesday as he rode on a ramp off Route 50 near Fair Oaks Mall.

Police responded around 7:15 p.m., after the 65-year-old cyclist, a resident of no fixed address, was hit by a vehicle. He had apparently turned abruptly into the vehicle's path, said department spokesperson Lucy Caldwell. The man was apparently driving toward the cars, not away from them when he was struck.

The man's injuries were life-threatening on the scene, but after first responders brought him to Inova Fairfax Hospital, his condition improved.
