Band Camp, Fairfax Studio Housing, Balloon Sculpting and Outdoor Movies

1. Walney Road Widening Thumbs Up? — Fairfax County Board of Supervisors will meet Tuesday to discuss several issues. The supervisors will weigh support for the Virginia Department of Transportation plans on Walney Road in Chantilly. The proposal includes bridge replacement and road widening. Improvements will also include 5-foot bike lanes in either direction. Complete agenda.

2. Residential Studio Zoning —  Also on the agenda: Whether to authorize a public hearing on a new special-use zoning designation for studio housing. If authorized, the public hearings will be held this fall. Complete agenda.

3. Centreville Band Camp at Liberty Middle School — "A great summer activity for any band student entering grades five through eight.  Beginners welcome.  Camp runs 8:30 AM - 11:30 AM starting Monday, July 29 and finishes with August 15 concert." More info.

4. Balloon Sculpting with Dixie Mayall — Centreville Regional Library hosts this event at 2 p.m. July 30. Learn the art of balloon twisting to make all kinds of cool creations. For ages 12 to 18.

5. Outdoor Kids Movies — Two outdoor movie opportunities this week. First, The nZone and Chick-fil-A screen "Dolphin Tale" at 4412 Chantilly Place, Chantilly on Tuesday, July 30. The night begins with games, crafts and contests at 6 p.m. The film will begin around 8:30 p.m. On Saturday, the annual Starlight Cinema outdoor movie series kicks off with a showing of "Madagascar 3." The show starts at dark at 5875 Trinity Parkway and are free to the public. Gates open at 6 p.m.
