A Winning Week for Centreville High

A look at last week's sports scores.

Soccer, March 14 v. South County: The boys' team won by a score of 3-1. Three CVHS players—Connor Coward, Jake Straub and Tyler Lawrence—tallied points for the Wildcats.

The girls' soccer team won their season opener 4 -1 over the Stallions. At halftime, the Wildcats were up 1- 0 with a goal from Clara Logsdon. The team then came in fast and furious during the second half, with two goals from Isabel Chang and a goal by Mari Marotta, who also had two assists. Keeper Taylor Avery had six saves for the game.  

Girls Soccer v. Annandale, March 17—The Lady Wildcats won 4-0 in their second game this season. At half time, the Wildcats were up 3- 0 with goals from Isabel Chang, Katie O'Donnell and Haley Yow.  In the second half, the team knocked in another goal by Jenna Green. The team had lots of help with assists by Alexandra Myers, Haley Yow, Isabel Chang and Katie O'Donnell.

Girls Lacrosse v. Fairfax, March 15—The Wildcats pulled ahead for an overwhelming win, 16-3 over the Rebels.

The team had yet another win v. Falls Church on March 21, finishing with a 19-3 final score.

Boys Lacrosse V. Fairfax, March 15:  The boys' varsity lacrosse team trounced Fairfax High School 16-4, in the opening game of the season. Despite the pouring rain, Centreville had a good showing from both their offensive and defensive lines. Junior Zack Sikora led the Wildcats with eight goals, with help from seniors Shane Kehl, Sam Marks, Austin Erickson  and David Kerrigan. Sophomores Andy Balberde and Nathan Marks also contributed goals. Goalie Pat Prosser had an outstanding game, limiting Fairfax all night.

This was an impressive on the road win for Centreville’s varsity team, against an opponent who beat them 8-4 last year. 

Boys JV Lacrosse v. Fairfax, March 14—  The JV boys lacrosse team opened its season with a shutout game against the Rebels, scoring 15 unanswered goals. Scoring for the Wildcats were Sean Doyle (two goals), Chase Heiner (one goal), Danny Meador (three goals), Kevin Hagan (one goal), Andrew Belloli (one goal), Andy Reilly (one goal), Elliot Cunningham (four goals) and Brennan Tait (one goal).  

Sean Doyle also led the team with six ground balls, followed by Chase Heiner and Carlos Morrobel with four ground balls each. 

Track, McLean Invitation, March 19—The boys team placed 10th overall while the girls placed fifth overall.

Sprint Medley—Alex Marmol, Eun Chong Kim, Brett Martin, Kip Talman—fourth place.

4x100—Mariana Mastriano, Genesis Echevarria, Sydney Evans, Maryn Wood—third place.
Sophomore Girls 4x800—Katie Hannah, Sabi Signh, Lizzy Carpenter. Joanna Ahn—second place.
Sprint Medley Relay—Genesis Echevarria, Mariana Mastriano, Maryn Wood, Brynna Heflin—first place.
Shuttle Hurdle Relay—Hawa Koroma, Flo Duong, Sydney Pryor, Genesis Echevarria—first place.
High Jump Relay—Sydney Pryor, Mariana Mastriano, Sydney Evans—second place. Pryor finished fifth overall.
Long Jump—Maryn Wood, Genesis Echevarria, Sydney Evans, Mariana Mastriano— second place. Maryn placed fourth overall.

Triple Jump—Sydney Pryor, Flo Duong, Genesis Echevarria—first place. Pryor placed second, Duong placed fifth and Echevarria placed sixth overall.

Discus - Sarah Emsley placed fourth overall, Pryor placed eighth.
