10:12 p.m. Fairfax County sent out the following reminder: "Stay off the roads, especially at night. Fairfax County has received 5 inches of rain in the last 3 hours. Heavy rains will continue until approximately midnight."

Correction/Clarification 8:45 p.m.: Fairfax County Police have shut down the I-66W exit 57 to route 50. Apologies for the error. 

Update 8:35 p.m. Springfield Supervisor Pat Herrity has sent out an email blast with a list of road closings for the Sully District, provided to him by the Sully Police Station. Many of the listings are included in our list below, but it might be useful to see the "official" verdict on what's closed in our area:

Update, 8:05 p.m. Fairfax County Police have shut down I-66W exit 57 to 50 due to flooding. I-495 is also shut down near Cameron Run.

It's not advisable to go out tonight, due to the flash flood warning in effect until 11 p.m. But if you have to drive, here's a list of places to avoid. Patch is compiling this list based on traffic info from other media outlets, readers' tips on social media, and information distributed by the Virginia Dept. of Transportation. 

Please be advised that we have not verified all reader tips ourselves, for obvious time and safety reasons. This list will be updated periodically throughout the night. 

From VDOT and Fairfax County:

• In the Fair Oaks area, I-66W is passable with care because of the flood. 
• On I-66W at mile marker 60, near Oakton, motorists can expect traffic backups of up to four miles. 
• Walney Road between Willard and Westfields—closed
• 7100 SB under Ox Raod—closed
• Fairfax Station Road/ ifo Popes Head Mill Estate—closed
• Popes Head Road/7100—closed
• Route 657 N and S: Braddock Rd; Sully R; 620 E/W

From Our Facebook Friends:

• Braddock Road in Centreville is closed by Newgate- reopens just after Rainbow daycare. Do not take 66 to Braddock because Braddock is closed due to flooding.
• Also a main road within Newgate. All Newgate community is trapped inside unless they want to risk taking a right to 28 & not being able to get back in.
• Centreville Rd by Floris was closed and Lees Corner by Lees Corner school too.
• I'm sitting on 29 towards centreville at the intersection with piney branch where Costco is... Completely stopped. 29 east at clifton and stringfellow was shut down when I passed it earlier.
• Walney road is flooded between Rt 28 and poplar tree.
• Compton Rd. is closed just west after you pass under Rt 66...looks like an accident but could not tell. Police blocking the road.
