Accidental Fire at Centreville Home Displaces Two

Fire investigators believe that the fire started from improperly disposed smoking materials.

From the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department:

The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department responded to a townhouse fire Thursday, April 12, 2012, at approximately 3:25 p.m., in the Centreville area of Fairfax County. The single-family townhouse is located at 5213 Prairie Willow Way.

Firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear and deck area of the three-story end unit townhouse upon arrival. Firefighters fought the fire from both the exterior and interior, quickly attempting to keep the fire in check. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately five minutes, not allowing the fire to spread to the adjoining townhouse.

An adult male and a dog escaped unharmed. Two adults have been displaced. There were no injuries. Damage estimate is to be determined.

According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. Discarded smoking materials caused the fire.
