Local Students Take Honors at Statewide Veterinary Competition
Kelsey Kallapos won first place for veterinary assisting, the first student ever from Fairfax County Public Schools to do so.
Kelsey Kallapos and Danielle Stoffelen of Centreville High School, took first and second places at a recent competition for the entire state of Virginia for Veterinary Assisting.
Students from the Chantilly High School Career and Technical Education Academy participated in the Virginia State SkillsUSA Leadership Conference and Competition in Hampton, Virginia on Saturday, April 2.
Of the 177 Fairfax County Public Schools students that competed, Chantilly Academy received 29 top-five finishes and eight first-place finishers, who have qualified to compete at the SkillsUSA National Conference in Kansas City this June.

Kallapos and Stoffelen studied at the Chantilly Academy Animal Science program. At the competition they were required to measure vital signs, height and weight, of both a dog and a cat, then required to demonstrate restraint and first aid techniques on the same two animals. Another part of their competition was to take a written exam on animal anatomy and physiology.
Kallapos' first-place finish makes her the first veterinary assisting state champion ever from Fairfax County Public Schools.
Besides Kallapos and Stoffelen, other CVHS students who enjoyed 6th place or higher finishes in this state competition are:

Nicole Reynolds, 3rd place for Occupational Scrapbook
Ashley Greer, 6th place for Job Interview
Amy Park, 5th place for Esthetics.
